Iona is originating from an upland beef and sheep farm on the outskirts of Stranraer, livestock farming has always been a great interest of hers. Across 1700 acres they run a flock of 1000 Blackface Ewes and 60 Blue Grey Cattle alongside a small flock of pedigree Blue Texels.
After graduating from the University of Glasgow with a 2:1 Honours Degree she took up employment with SAC Consulting as an Agricultural Consultant. Her initial years with the company were spent moving around to provide exposure to the varying types of farming implemented across the country. Over her five years with the company she has been based within the Thainstone, Lanark, and Stranraer offices. This variation has provided her with a wealth of contacts across Scotland and undoubtedly strengthened her knowledge of the countries farming systems.
Despite enjoying her five years as part of SAC, she has always wanted to pursue her main interests full-time, and this is where breeding and genetics come into play. The ability to enhance the health, productivity, and efficiency of animals by making genetic alterations is something that fascinates her.
