We have a new breeding advisor to cover the South Wales region.
Andrea Beck joins the company after 10 years of working with NMR, recently as area field manager, and many years milking on farms.
Raised in Hampshire and West Wales, she spent many childhood years helping her stepfather who worked on farms in both areas, also carrying out duties with calves and youngstock for the family’s dairy heifer rearing business.
She was bitten by the dairy farming bug in her youth and studied agriculture at both Sparsholt College in Hampshire and Gelli Aur in Carmarthenshire.
She joins VikingGenetics at a time of rapid expansion as the benefits of the company’s high health and efficiency genetics are increasingly valued, as the industry seeks more sustainable production systems. And as many farmers in her region of Wales switch their emphasis to spring block calving, she hopes to introduce the popular VikingGoldenCross to more farms.
“I’m really looking forward to working with farmers in the region, many of whom I know through both relief milking and NMR,” she says. “Their choice of genetics is a significant, long-term investment and I can’t wait to be involved in that important decision-making process and follow these animals through to being milkers in their herds.”
